Nellie Watson was born in 1895 in Cellardyke, Anstruther, the daughter of a fisherman. She was educated at Cellardyke Public School. Writing poems and the study of human nature has become a ‘way of life’ for Nellie – ‘pushin’ a pen for the sheer love of it’, as she puts it. She wrote as the mood took her, sometimes in ‘Fife’s ain tongue’ and other times in English, inspiration coming from looking, listening and remembering. The past comes alive as Nellie takes us on a fascinating journey through childhood, adolescence onwards, giving a vivid, witty and utterly truthful account of past times, people and places.
