Scottish Castles and Houses

Scottish Castles and Houses

Scottish Castles are known throughout the world, from ancient fortresses like Edinburgh and Stirling Castles to the Queen's holiday home Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire, often called Castle country. We have biographies by Castle owners such as Lady Jean Fforde at Brodick Castle on the Isle of Arran and we have academic studies of castles and fortifications. We also include fiction in this section where the Castle is one of the main characters or subjects.

Here in the East Neuk of Fife we have the stunning Kellie Castle owned by the National Trust for Scotland (NTS) and former home of the Earls of Kellie and later restored by renowned Scottish architect Sir Robert Lorimer as he family home. There are other ruined castles nearby including Ardross, Newark, Pittarthie and St. Andrews castle.
