The First World War came to an end at 11.00am on the 11th of November, 1918 after four long years of fierce battles under the horrific conditions. Across the world people were celebrating in the streets the news of the long-awaited Armistice that marked the end of hostilities in Europe. But the soldiers on the front line were sceptical and uneasy, and the fighting was to continue until the eleventh hour; the last man was shot and killed only minutes before this.
